1. What is your name (first, last)? Hannah Mann.

2. Do you have a preferred name or nickname you would like us to use? No. My name is boring.

3. Do you own your own computer? If so, what platform (Mac, PC), and what operating system (Windows XP/Vista, Mac Tiger/Leopard, Linux, unsure)? If not, have you had experience with Mac or PC or both? No; I live at home, so I use my parents' PC. It has Windows XP. I can't recall if I've ever used a Mac.

4. Do you own a digital camera and/or video camera? If so, describe your gear, and talk a little bit about your experience capturing still and moving images. I have an Olympus 7.1 megapixel digital camera with a 'movie' setting; and a cheap Polaroid, which I never use. I've experimented with the Olympus for a lot of amateur photography, and have gotten several passable images out of it. I don't use the video function often because it uses up a lot of memory storage and battery power. I've also played around with my dad's JVC video camera a bit.

5. Have you ever edited a video before? If so, what software did you use? I tried. Couldn't even get the images on the computer. I think that was more due to equipment incompatibility than general ineptitude.

6. Have you worked with sound (or music) before, either performing, recording, or processing? If so, please describe. Nope.

7. Who are your favorite filmmakers? I don't have any "favorite" filmmakers but I do like Ridley Scott, Alfred Hitchcock, Ang Lee, and Hayao Miyazaki.

8. What are some of your favorite films? Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; Hotel Rwanda, the first Pirates of the Caribbean, A Series of Unfortunate Events, the Lord of the Rings triology, Titus; also, I'll generally watch anything with lots of cool martial arts action in it, especially if it's choreographed by Yuen Woo-Ping and has Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh, or Zhang Zi Yi in it.

9. Who or what inspired you to pursue studies in Film? I've always been very good at art and writing; and I enjoy a good story. Film seems like a perfect way to incorporate those two elements.

10. What kind of career do you imagine for yourself in Film or other Media Arts? Well, I hope to be a screenwriter and director. That's my goal, but I think I would enjoy editing as well, and generally any position that deal with art/making things, such as costume designer or background props.

11. Is there anything else you would like us to know about you? Yes. I'm profoundly deaf. That's why two people follow me to class and type out the lecture on a laptop so I can keep up with the class. And I get to save the transcript on my USB drive, so I don't have to take notes. (Well, not a lot of notes, anyway.) It's sweet.
I use a cochlear implant as a substitute for hearing. I've been told that cochlear implant "hearing" sounds like a Dalek. Kinda like "pixelated" sound. It'll be interesting to see how the Drift projects go for me.
If for some reason you need to talk to me, don't freak out. Just make sure I can see your face when you speak, and avoid places with a lot of background noise. Chances are my interpreters will be around to help. Failing that, I usually keep a pen and paper on me. :)

When I was in 8th grade I got into photography from my mother who asked me to set-up her digital camera, then later on in 10th grade I had to make a movie for a desktop publishing class. Most people did cheesy slideshows of pictures of them and their best friends to clique music. I didn’t want to do that so I got some friends together and made a sort of stop-motion movie. I enjoyed doing it, so I signed up for media studies and I fell in love with filmmaking.

10. What kind of career do you imagine for yourself in Film or other Media Arts?
I would like to be a producer/director/script writer and maybe work for National Geographic as a photographer.

11. Is there anything else you would like us to know about you?
I would like to learn more about film photography.

3. mmm.... MacPro <3 I can't honestly say that I own it, but I use it. It runs Leopard. I also have PC experience, but I'd prefer not to talk about it.

4. I own an old Nikon Coolpix. It also shots video, just not very well. I use all sorts of cameras (analog and digital) on a regular basis, and I've used VHS home-video recorders.

5. Does making stop-motion videos on an old VHS recorder count?

6. I have played many an instrument in my day, although none of them past an intermediate level. As for recording and mixing? Nope, none of it.

7. I don't keep track of filmmakers very well, but a few I have noted are:
(for neat animation)
Jan Svankmajer, Terry Gilliam, Tim Burton, Don Hertzfeldt, Hayao Miyazaki
(for good live actian films)
Joel and Ethan Coen, Mel Brooks, Jean Pierre Jeunet, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, Danny Boyle

8. Oh gosh... All time favorites? "The Princess Bride", "Amorres Perros", "The Good, The Bad and the Ugly", "Everything Will Be OK", "Pan's Labyrinth", "Delicatessen", "28 Days Later", "Black Sheep" (the one from New Zealand with zombie sheep, not the one with Chris Farley)

9. Traveling. Traveling inspired me to pursue film. I was in Mexico thinking about how all I want to do is travel and somehow make money doing it. Then I noticed a television screen in the hotel lobby playing a travel documentary and thought, "Aha"! That and a lifelong love of quirky animated films.

10. I imagine that I will always make avant-garde films for the point of artistic self-fulfillment. But art doesn't always pay the bills, so what I want to do for a living is to produce my own travel documentaries. In Central and South America first and then the rest of the world.

11. I'm not telling, you'll have to ask ;)

1. What is your name (first, last)?
>Amber Glembin

2. Do you have a preferred name or nickname you would like us to use?
>Amber is fine unless you come up with one.

3. Do you own your own computer? If so, what platform (Mac, PC), and what operating system (Windows XP/Vista, Mac Tiger/Leopard, Linux, unsure)? If not, have you had experience with Mac or PC or both?
>I have Windows Vista and pretty much grew up on PC but I'm fairly familiar with Mac.

4. Do you own a digital camera and/or video camera? If so, describe your gear, and talk a little bit about your experience capturing still and moving images.
>I have a Kodak digital camera, its actually my third camera, my friend dropped my first one and the second's flash stopped working.. BUT I really like taking pictures and prefer clean shots without weird extra space etc. (even though they are just for fun) and capturing candid shots of people, that aren't too unflattering.

5. Have you ever edited a video before? If so, what software did you use?
>No

6. Have you worked with sound (or music) before, either performing, recording, or processing? If so, please describe.
>No but I look forward to both 5 and 6.

7. Who are your favorite filmmakers?
>Martin Scorsese, Alfred Hitchcock, Christopher Nolan, and Mike Nichols(solely for the Graduate)

8. What are some of your favorite films?
>The Graduate, The Departed, Dark Knight, The Godfather, Milk, The Prestige, Gran Torino, The Machinist, The New World, Collateral, Jurassic Park, and Memoirs of a Geisha

9. Who or what inspired you to pursue studies in Film?
>I don't mean to sound really broad but the world and movies. After watching a movie with really outstanding cinematography it's hard not to become inspired. Even when the movie is over you still feel in the zone and begin looking at the world and think of what would make a good scene or "shot." Specifically the first time I remember feeling this was after watching Dial "M" for Murder when I was about eleven, or something.

10. What kind of career do you imagine for yourself in Film or other Media Arts?
>Not sure this class is my first legit step towards possibly pursuing something in film.

11. Is there anything else you would like us to know about you?
>I was kind of nervous to take this class, but I'm really glad I am.

I own a "Canon PowerShot S5IS". I love taking pictures. I mainly do it during occasions or trips, and I end up taking ridiculous amounts each time. It's great. I've put my father's video camera to good use. My friends and I have made all kinds of little movies. Even a feature length movie, which we were able to show at our local movie theatre for our friends. Along with that, I've had a small job video taping weddings and receptions, and then editing all the footage into a nice dvd copy for the couple.

I've used Pinnacle Studio 8, and now mainly just iMovie. I recently got FinalCut Express, and have yet to learn to use it.

6. Have you worked with sound (or music) before, either performing, recording, or processing? If so, please describe.

10. What kind of career do you imagine for yourself in Film or other Media Arts?
I'm not sure... Ultimately I'd like to make my own films. I have very talented friends, and it has kind of been our pipe dream to make films together. I would like to be a cinematographer and an editor. I realize it's not easy to get in the business. Short films and feature. Always trying things in an unconventional way.

11. Is there anything else you would like us to know about you?
I don't think so! Good to be here.

10. What kind of career do you imagine for yourself in Film or other Media Arts?
If I eventually have a career in 'Film or other Media Arts' I would like it to point towards becoming a "camera woman". Whether that be recording music, sounds, wildlife, historical moments, or situations that I feel should be recognized and the world should see through tasteful production and complimentary sound production.
11. Is there anything else you would like us to know about you?
I recently moved from Madison, WI where I lived for about 10 years. Prior to that I grew up in the countryside in Illinois where my mother ran a Greenhouse Business (where I went to elementary school). Before elementary school age I lived in Nepal, Mexico, and Congo, Africa because of my father's job. In fact, my wonderfully insane parents flew me over to the Congo after 7 days of life in Illinois, (where I was born) and lived for 2 years with multiple exotic pets including a large chameleon and a monkey. My younger brother was born in a one room hospital with one flashlight in Kikwit, Congo, Africa when I was 2 years old. Also, my father currently lives on the island of Guam in the Pacific. The summer after graduating high school I visited him in Guam where I developed my love for Reggae. Those are the more exciting parts of my life as far as I know.
